I can only speak for the first four months. So far, I haven't had any leaks. (Okay, okay. Once I had a leak. But I was trying to cut corners and use a Pocket Diaper without an insert as a cover. Actually, I use pocket diapers all the time as covers at night... but there must be an insert inside.)
As for night time diapering, I think one of the main things is to keep baby's bottom dry. My favorite nighttime remedy is a microfiber insert or doubler. They hold a lot of moisture without feeling so damp against the skin.

I use a microfiber soaker/insert/doubler with the Kissaluv fitted (cotton or cotton/hemp) and a diaper cover. That combination is usually strong enough to get through the night.

Right now Harper Love is not eating solid foods... so we'll have to see if our nighttime routine changes with baby's diet.
